If you have a lot of jewelry, you know how easy it is for everything to get mixed up and tangled together. Whether it's piled into a box or jumbled in a dish, spending 35 minutes untangling the jewelry you want to wear that day is, unfortunately, not uncommon. Luckily, you can DIY your own jewelry holder with just a few items, creating something just as unique and creative as the jewelry itself.

In this DIY, we're making a jewelry stand by attaching a paper towel tube horizontally to the top of a candlestick holder, creating a crossbar to hang jewelry from. It allows you to easily display bracelets and necklaces so you can say goodbye to jewelry clutter, keeping them organized and accessible. Being able to see your jewelry will make it quick and easy to pick things out each day. Plus, the stand looks adorable on your dresser or vanity, too.

So stop tossing paper towel tubes because you're going to need one for this fun DIY jewelry holder. You'll also need a candlestick holder, which you can find at a thrift store or home decor shop, or you can rummage through your attic for one you already have. Additionally, you'll need a hot glue gun with glue sticks, a pair of scissors, and an old magazine. Lastly, grab some fabric you love, whether it's scrap material from previous projects, an old pillowcase, or anything else around the house. Of course, you can always buy fabric from a local craft store, too.

How to DIY a jewelry stand for bracelets & necklaces

To start, let's prep our supplies. Get that hot glue gun turned on and warmed up. Quickly wipe down the candlestick holder to clean it up. Optionally, you can paint it, too. Then cut out a rectangular piece of fabric that's as wide as the paper towel tube is long and large enough to wrap all the way around it. Next, cut two fabric circles, each about ½ inch wider in diameter than the ends of the paper towel tube.

Apply hot glue around the edge of one fabric circle and attach it to the end of the paper towel tube, making sure it completely covers the opening. Now, roll up your old magazine and slide it inside the paper towel tube to give it more stability. Then glue the second fabric circle to the opposite end of the roll, so it's now sealed shut. Lay out the rectangular piece of fabric and apply a line of hot glue along one edge. Set the paper towel tube horizontally along the glued edge and wrap the fabric around it, adding lines of hot glue as you go to keep everything secure. Add another line of glue to secure the end of the fabric and cut off any excess.

And now it's time to repurpose your candlestick holder as the base of the jewelry stand. Cover the top of the candlestick holder in hot glue. Center the paper towel tube horizontally on top of the candlestick holder and hold it in place until the glue sets.

Hacks and tips to make the DIY jewelry stand your own

If you will be hanging longer necklaces, you want to choose a candlestick holder that is on the taller side. This will give your jewelry stand enough height for necklaces to hang freely without touching the table or dresser it's displayed on.

To add a softer touch, particularly for delicate jewelry, glue a layer of batting onto the paper towel roll before attaching the fabric. You might also consider the type of fabric you use, making sure it doesn't have any rough textures that might snag and catch your jewelry as you're placing it on or off of the stand.

There are a couple of things you can do to make your jewelry stand sturdier so it lasts longer. Stuffing the paper towel tube helps reinforce it so it won't get crushed under the weight of your jewelry. If you don't have any magazines to roll up and insert, you can use old newspaper or save that packing paper that comes in delivery boxes. When attaching the paper towel tube to the candlestick holder, you can opt for E6000 adhesive instead of hot glue for a stronger bond, especially if your jewelry is on the heavier side.
