Add String Lights To Dollar Tree Pots For Enchanting Decor For Your Patio

Often you'll find that the simplest crafting ideas produce the most outstanding results. For example, who would have thought that spending a rainy afternoon gluing string lights inside a cheap flower pot would result in an enchantingly pretty decor piece for your patio? That's exactly what a creator on the YouTube channel Hometalk has achieved using two white plastic planters from Dollar Tree, a bundle of string lights, and a hot glue gun. It's just one more way you can create a stylish patio space without breaking the bank.

The creator glued the string lights to the inside walls of a large plant pot and then placed a smaller pot inside to hold an artificial flower arrangement. While there are plenty of creative uses for Dollar Tree planters around your home and garden, all you really need to replicate this gorgeous decor project are two plastic pots that fit inside each other. If you can't find the right planters at Dollar Tree, check other local discount stores or big-box retailers like Walmart to find something suitable. You'll find that white or light-colored pots with thin walls work best for this DIY because the light from the bulbs can shine through. While you're at Dollar Tree, don't forget to pick up a pack of white LED String Lights and some more Crafter's Square Hot Glue Sticks if you're running low.

How to create illuminated plant pots for your patio

All you really need to do to complete this project is heat up your glue gun and glue the individual bulbs on the wires of the string lights to the inside wall of the large pot. Start by gluing the battery pack to the interior of the large pot, then put a dab of glue on the bulb closest to the battery pack and stick it in place, too. Continue dabbing glue on bulbs and attaching them until the pot is evenly covered. You can choose any pattern or design you wish — for example, you could add them randomly or create a spiral of bulbs.

Once the glue has dried, you can switch on the lights and carefully place the small pot inside the large one. Take care not to dislodge any bulbs when inserting the pot. You can then add whatever artificial flowers or foliage you have on hand and place the planter outside on your patio table. You could even put a live potted plant inside the large planter if you wish. Just remember to carefully remove the potted plant when it's time to water it.

If you use these Dollar Tree Christmas House Mini Decorative String Lights and put a poinsettia in the inner pot, this illuminated planter would make a gorgeous festive decor piece. Or you could use orange string lights and some autumn-themed botanicals, like these Smalldu Fall Oak Stems. In fact, this project is so quick and easy to make and modify that you can change it up for the seasons or festive occasions. It's just one more way to upgrade your outdoor parties with a creative lighting idea.
