Which Of Marvel's Avengers Has The Most Expensive Home?

There is no doubt that the movies that comprise the epic Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have had an immense impact on popular culture. Since it released the premier film "Iron Man" in 2008, the franchise has grown to almost 30 films and multiple spin-off miniseries — and still, fans worldwide are hungry for more. With every movie that is released, box office sales records are surpassed. According to Time, the franchise has had seven films so far that have hit the $1 billion mark in worldwide sales.

Some of the highest-grossing and more popular films in the MCU seem to come when the various superheroes team up to form the Avengers. They're a rag-tag group of powerful individuals that generally consist of Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man respectively, pulled together by the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, Nick Fury.

The star-studded cast that portrays these characters greatly benefited from the success of the films, with some of the actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth amassing huge personal fortunes for their roles, according to Business Insider. You might ask yourself: How the stars choose to spend their superhero earnings? It's not lavish vacations – instead, the answer is real estate and plenty of it. From London, England condos to massive resort-like beachside properties, the stars of the Avengers movies have used those megabucks to invest in some pretty amazing properties. Let's take a look at which Avenger has the most expensive home.

Tom Holland has an apartment in London, England

Being the youngest member of the Avengers, you would think that maybe it would take a few years to really come into your own. However, Tom Holland's portrayal as the nervous and nerdy Peter Parker turned friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is arguably one of the most likable characters of the bunch. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Holland has managed to rack up an impressive $18 million to his name, with the majority of his money coming from his role as the web-slinging superhero.

Since 2017, Holland has owned an apartment in London that was shown to him by his mother, which he revealed in an interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." The flat is conveniently located just down the street from where the actor grew up. More recently in 2022, rumors swirled that Holland and his girlfriend — actor Zendaya — spent over $3 million on a home in the United Kingdom. These rumors were quashed by Holland as he cleared up the confusion on "Live with Kelly and Ryan," stating that the accusations weren't true.

Mark Ruffalo sold Brooklyn and L.A. properties to move to a more humble home

You might go green with envy when you hear about the relaxed lifestyle that Mark Ruffalo chooses to live. After years of playing the Hulk — the angry, building-hopping, smash-everything-around-him member of the Avengers — Ruffalo has sold off property that he owned in the bustling borough of Brooklyn, to move his family to more rural digs.

Around 2017, Ruffalo sold his brownstone Brooklyn home for a reported $3.1 million, according to Dirt. The 3,200-square-foot townhome has three floors of living space and boasts a marble fireplace, sun room, and a walk-out balcony. In 2009, Ruffalo also said goodbye to his Los Angeles ranch-style house that he sold for just under $1.7 million, also per Dirt. All of the property shuffling allowed Ruffalo to move him and his family to a more laid-back and rural setting as they now mainly live on nearly 50 acres of property in the Catskill Mountain area of Upstate New York. According to Dirt, the home only cost the actor $280,000, but it may be worth its weight in gold as the Hulk actor told the Times Herald-Record, "I would spend my days as a boy fishing in creeks and ponds or climbing around in trees. Everything about the Catskills remind me of my childhood. I don't know what to say other than it's my home."

Chris Evans has a vacant home in Los Angeles

While undertaking the iconic role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans had been living the Hollywood life. In 2013, he purchased a stunning piece of property in the Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles for $3.52 million, according to the listing on Realtor. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom , one powder room home sits on just under 1 acre of land and has gorgeous views of the surrounding L.A. landscape, especially from the spacious infinity pool. With plenty of privacy within the gated walls of the community, it's no wonder that Evans would have enjoyed his time there while seeking solace from the spotlight.

However, during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Evans chose to move across the country, back to his roots, leaving his L.A. pad vacant. He has been sharing a home with his brother, Scott Evans, after returning to their home state of Massachusetts, according to Boston.com.

Robert Downey Jr. spends his time in a Malibu mansion

Robert Downey Jr. has enjoyed a successful acting career that spans back to the '70s. During this time the actor has enjoyed many accolades including two Academy Award nominations — one for his portrayal of silent film star Charlie Chaplin in the 1993 film "Chaplin," then in 2009 for his supporting role in "Tropic Thunder," according to IMDb. However, it was his role as the billionaire playboy Tony Stark who went on to become the Marvel Avenger Iron Man, where he cemented his position in pop culture history.

For Downey Jr.'s role as Iron Man in "Avengers: Endgame," he reported making up to $75 million, according to Forbes. So what did the successful actor do with all of that cash? In 2017, he purchased a sprawling Malibu property for $3.8 million, per Architectural Digest. The mansion spans 3,384 square feet of living space with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Resting on top of a picturesque California cliff, the mansion has massive retractable windows that ensure an unbeatable view of the waterfront.

Scarlett Johansson has an impressive property portfolio

Scarlett Johansson plays the role of the cunning Avenger operative Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow. Her secret agent character crossed over and was a major part of many of the MCU's films until finally getting her own solo "Black Widow" movie in 2021, per IMDb. However, there is nothing secret about how Johansson chooses to spend her earnings as she has amassed an impressive property portfolio.

In 2022, Johansson sold her NYC penthouse for $1.87 million after spending almost two years on the market. Unfortunately, the sale of her two-bedroom, two-bathroom property overlooking the East River came at a loss as she originally purchased the dwelling for $2.1 million back in 2008, according to the New York Post. Luckily, Johansson has a few other properties to her name including a $2.2 million Hampton's beach house and a $3.88 million Los Feliz home, according to Velvet Ropes.

Jeremy Renner is an avid house flipper

It seems that Jeremy Renner has another job outside of being a famous Hollywood actor (via IMDb), and that is in the role of real estate flipper. Best known for his work as the bullseye-hitting arrow slinger Hawkeye, Renner starred in many of the major "Avengers" films including a Disney Plus original miniseries called "Hawkeye."

However, Renner's talents are not specifically reserved for the silver screen; he is also an avid house flipper and has been doing so for over 15 years, netting himself profits in the millions, according to an interview with Bloomberg. With well over 20 projects bought, fixed up, and sold it seems that he has really found a passion for the work. According to the Los Angles Times, in 2020 Renner sold his Mount Olympus home for a staggering $5.125 million. The residence is a 4,500-square-foot mansion that features a huge fireplace, stunning courtyard, movie theatre, and saltwater pool. Now, Renner spends his days living in Reno, Nevada while continuing to work as an actor and home remodeler.

Samuel L. Jackson has a big-time mansion in Beverly Hills

Samuel L. Jackson has wowed us for many years in his passionate portrayals of characters from classic films that we will not soon forget. He went from playing legendary roles in Quentin Tarantino directed films like "Jackie Brown," The Hateful Eight," and his Academy Award-nominated performance in "Pulp Fiction" to starring as Jedi Master Mace Windu in multiple "Star Wars" films, per IMDb. But when it came to casting for the role of S.H.I.E.L.D director and Avenger recruiter, Nick Fury, Hollywood hit the nail on the head when they brought in Jackson to play the part.

For his home life, Jackson has made some major real estate moves before settling where he is now. In 2014 he sold his San Fernando Valley home for a reported $3.2 million, then in 2018, he sold his Upper East Side New York City condo for $13 million, according to Velvet Ropes. Previously in 2000, Jackson purchased a massive 11,000-square-foot home in swanky Beverly Hills from actor Roseanne Barr for $8.35 million, per Realtor. The California mansion is comprised of three separate buildings that include a huge guest house, a full-sized tennis court, and a large pool that has views of the valley.

Chris Hemsworth has a massive mansion in Australia

Chris Hemsworth made beaucoup bucks as part of the MCU playing the role of Thor. Not only has his character been a part of all of the major star-studded "Avengers" films, but he has also taken his Asgardian hero to star in three standalone films, with the fourth film in the series set for release in 2022, per IMDb.  With the upcoming "Thor: Love and Thunder" film, Hemsworth is apparently going to be bringing in upwards of $20 million for reprising the role, according to Variety. So with money rolling in, how exactly does the God of Thunder choose to live? The answer is large.

Hemsworth by far has the most expensive home out of all of the Avengers actors as he owns a massive Byron Bay mansion in Australia that is reportedly worth up to $30 million, according to the Daily Mail. The property spans just over 10 acres of ocean view land with the L.A. resort-style home taking up over 9,600 square feet. Hemsworth and his family enjoy eight bedrooms with multiple floors and amenities including a full game room and a 50-meter-long infinity pool. Also within the massive compound are a full-sized gym, walk-in closets for almost every bedroom, and unmatched views of the rolling ocean.
