Avoid This Paint Hue On Your Kitchen Cabinets

Remodeling an outdated kitchen can be expensive, but one way to save is to paint the existing cabinets. By painting the cabinets, you'll be able to refresh the look of the room without replacing perfectly good furniture pieces. You may even want to paint new cabinets depending on the color you have in mind since most stores usually only sell these kitchen appliances in white, gray, or wood tones.

When choosing what color to paint them, it's important to remember that kitchen cabinets aren't accent pieces. Instead, they take up a lot of space in the room, so lighter colors are usually better than darker or bold colors. Textbook Painting shares more on the best kitchen cabinet colors, and they recommend sticking with light neutrals. This is especially true if you plan on selling your home because light neutral colors appeal to most people. On the other hand, accent shades or two color schemes also work well; but which color should you avoid?

Stay away from purple

Apartment Therapy spoke with real estate experts about the best kitchen cabinet colors. All the professionals they discussed with agreed that purple was the worst choice of paint color for the kitchen. Purple is too bold of a color that would limit decor options and potential buyers. However, if you don't plan on selling your home in the near future, the potential resale opportunities don't matter. Other colors that Colleen Toner, a real estate agent in Lynn, Massachusetts, warned to stay away from are hot pinks, bright oranges, fluorescent yellows, and black.

On the other hand, bright neutral paint colors like whites, grays, and browns are the best hues for the kitchen. However, be careful not to choose a neutral shade that has golden or tan undertones, or the cabinets would look outdated. Red is another color to be wary of because it would be hard to match decor with. If you want something bolder without your kitchen looking crazy, Toner suggests choosing from antique blues and greens shades.
