You Can Stay At An Upstate New York Airbnb That's Actually A Converted Church

For $343 a night, you can stay in an Upstate New York Airbnb that's actually a converted church, which its hosts are calling "The Little Church on the Hill." According to Airbnb, the church, which was built in 1914, was converted into a living space in the 1950s. Due to its uniqueness and overwhelming popularity, the church has appeared in Life, Home and Garden Magazines, and even novels. It also made the list of "50 Most Unique and Cool Airbnbs in New York for Your Next Getaway" by Serena's Lenses.

The walls of the 20th-century church are original and give guests the chance to experience the authenticity of the building. For those worried about beating the heat in the summer or staying warm in the winter, the church is equipped with heating and air conditioning; however, it doesn't include television to encourage guests to enjoy the church's history and peaceful environment. Let's take a look at what else "The Little Church on the Hill" has in store.

An outside view

Located in the forest just outside Woodstock in the Hudson Valley, the converted church is surrounded by 1.5 acres of beautiful land and is adorned with red lancet exterior doors and the original stained glass windows, as seen in the Airbnb listing. Lancet-style is a term used to describe any arched door or window with a tall, narrow opening, Britain Express explains.

The Airbnb listing states the property features a patio space with a dining table and grill, perfect for those who wish to eat their meals outside and enjoy the breathtaking landscape. The patio also includes a simple couch, hammock, and chair set for rest and relaxation in the fresh air. There are several parking spaces outside the building. If you choose to stay in the church during the summer, you can expect luscious green trees surrounding the property. In the fall season, you'll find yourself in the midst of beautiful colors, and crisp leaves.

Spacious interior

When you enter the church, you'll notice the pews have been removed to make way for the large open living space that acts as a living room and sleeping quarters. According to Masterclass, an open floor plan such as this allows for more communication between guests and makes having gatherings easier. Across from the designated living room (complete with a large fireplace and spacious couch), you'll find a California King bed.

The church's tall lancet windows fill the space with natural lighting, but there's no need to worry about a lack of privacy because each window is decorated with floor-length curtains. One of the most unique features of the church is the spiral staircase, which leads to a room with a twin-sized bed under the church's bell tower, per Airbnb. Additionally, the church offers a private room with a queen-sized bed and an updated bathroom with an all-glass shower.
