Grab your vases, a hot glue gun, some spray paint for glass, a small glass bowl for each holder (smaller than the bottom of the vase), and tiny floating candles that will fit each bowl. If you have young children, you may want to swap out the candle for a flameless option to keep little fingers safe. However, don't forget — hot glue can be messy. So don't panic if you drip some on your rug. There are easy ways to remove hot glue from your carpet to save the day.

How to design candle holders with hot glue

Choose the vases you'll be using. You can even use thrifted light bulb globes for your candle holders. Then, heat your glue gun to prepare for making whatever design you want. You can go with a swirly texture, cover the glass in raised dots, or do something a bit abstract and unique. Whether dotting or swirling, do a small line at a time, turning the base as you apply the glue. If you want a crackled glass look, sprinkle coarse kosher salt on the glue before it dries. You'll need to work in small sections to get the salt on before the glue dries.

If you decide to paint your vases, wait for the glue to dry, then take it outside to spray paint it with glass paint. Lightly spray the outside of the vases, applying 2 to 3 coats until you're satisfied with the coverage, and let them dry. If you want to use your creation as a vase, then it's ready to go. For candle holders, turn the vases upside down. Hot glue your small bowls to the flat part of the vase, with the opening facing up. Add water to the bowls to fill each about halfway, then place a floating candle on top to finish off your customized DIY candle holder
