Reuse A Dollar Tree Wreath Form For A DIY Centerpiece That'll Take Your Breath Away

In the world of DIY crafting, reusing items like a Dollar Tree 3D wreath form encourages you to look at an old piece in a new way. In this case you're creating a breathtaking DIY centerpiece inspired by vintage knitting baskets. Projects of this nature don't require a lot of money either. The globe-shaped wreath form is basically free if you're repurposing one you already have. As far as trim and decorative elements go, these DIYs get adorned with the same items that a flat wreath would: flowers and greenery, ribbon or twine, and decorative balls — all things you can get from Dollar Tree for $15 or less, depending on how elaborate your wreath "basket" is.

Unless you're using this piece to augment the industrial decor in your home, you'll want to cover up the wire form. While it's possible to spray paint the wire, you'll get better results if you cover the hoops with yarn, jute twine from the Tenn Well Store, or the ribbon of your choice. These materials also come in handy when you're ready to wrap up some large white styrofoam balls from AHKUNMT to sit inside the repurposed wreath form. Finally, you'll also need to decide what kind of floral elements should go on your 3D globe wreath.

A hot glue gun plus some glue sticks typically give you the most flexibility for this project. A pair of scissors is necessary to trim ribbons and twine. Finally, you'll need some scraps of cardboard to create a base for a beautiful centerpiece that looks good all year

How to create the 3D DIY centerpiece

If you're reusing an old 3D wreath form, start this project by removing any of the previous decorative material still stuck to the wires. Once that's done, bind the wires into a globe shape by weaving twine around the wires at the base and top of the wreath, then hot gluing that to the cardboard base and wrapping it with a little more twine. Next, create a decorative "button" by coiling a disc of twine tightly, hot-gluing each loop as you go along. Once that's done, glue it to the bottom of the wire form inside the globe. Finally, weave a basket design by wrapping twine decoratively around the bottom half of the globe. The idea is you've created a whimsical, stylized knitting basket to hold and display decorative yarn balls and other festive items.

To make the yarn balls, you'll need some large white Styrofoam balls from AHKUNMT, which cost around $13 as of this writing. Wrap each one completely to mimic a ball of yarn. Once these are done, they go into the basket as decorations. You can add other decorative elements as well. For example, a twist of simple filler flowers or vine can be wrapped around the top of the wreath form as an accent. You can also decorate according to a theme. A wreath basket for a kid's party gets cute little stuffed animals tucked in with the yarn balls. At Christmastime, push some candy canes into the yarn balls imitating a pair of knitting needles.
