DIY Design Tips For A Witchy, Moody Bathroom

Whether you are a Halloween all year around person, just plain excited for the announcement of the new "Practical Magic" movie, or you want to upgrade your bathroom for the "summerween" trend, the witchy décor aesthetic does not have a seasonal stamp. Not only is this vibe trending, but DIYing your bathroom into a coven-tastic space is one of the most unique ways to bring the dark, moody, gothic designs through your home in a stylish way. While your bathroom is the ideal place for color in your home, it is also a good spot to decorate in wild or dramatic aesthetics, thanks to the smaller square footage. However, it is the witchy aesthetic that could really set your washroom apart, making it bold and luxurious. Who knows? Maybe bringing these witchy vibes will elevate your power, too.

If you are already into the gothic décor trend, you may have a color palette and theme you want to work with. The thing about witchy aesthetics is that they are all different and can be anything from white and nature-inspired to dark and dramatic. There is, of course, an in between, too, so you want to decide on the shades and elements you want to work with. If you are not sure, a few basics to start with include plants, brass or gold-thrifted décor, candles, and plush textiles (think shower curtains, towels, rugs, etc.).

Opt for a dark and moody aesthetic

A few colors that will turn your bathroom into a dark and moody oasis include maroon, black, umber, dark purple, forest greens, and even brown or navy blues. Pick out plush towels in one of these shades, then find a velvet shower curtain to match. This can also have a pattern or design, just keep your color palette in mind to add complementary accents for any other hues in the curtain. Add a hook on one or both sides to hold your hanging back from your shower to elevate the setup. If you really want to lean into the witchy aesthetic, there are many black bathroom ideas you will be completely obsessed with and that will show you black is not too much for this space.

If you want lighter wall paint that still offers a dramatic finish, a sage green would balance the darker elements and using a dramatic and bold wallpaper as an accent wall could bring dimension to the room. Dark wood shelves would help to keep your witchy-themed items, and even industrial style pipes to hold them. Try to incorporate natural materials like wood and stone to play into the earthy ambiance typically associated with witchcraft. Terracotta planters with hanging leafy plants would be great for higher shelves and to hang. Add brass fixtures, hardware, and vintage metallic on your surfaces to really pull the aesthetic together.

Neutral witchy vibes are trending, too

You can still create gothic aesthetics on a lighter, more neutral level. An accent wall of ship lap or wallpaper in softer florals would give a green/forest effect and use lighter wood for your shelving and cabinetry. If you already have darker wood in the bathroom, play to this by using cream and beige linens and fabrics, then add touches of dark wood in frames, vases, and even silver vintage metal instead of gold. Use faux or real dried flowers to hang from hooks around the room, adding in plants.

Lighting is important when it comes to designing a moody room. It may be worth investing in layered lighting fixtures so you can change the ambiance in the room. Remote/battery-operated sconces are good for your walls, as they can be adjusted to any color bulb you want and provide a more cozy, soft light. Twinkling lights on your shelves or in jars will also bring an ethereal element, and battery-operated candles are great for getting an intimate, dramatic aesthetic. These can be grouped on the shelves for an apothecary-type vibe. Try to add hooks along your walls to trail draping vines from your faux or real plants and add vintage books on your shelves along with your brass or silver décor. Do not forget witchy does not mean spooky – this aesthetic is whatever you want to make it, as long as there are elements of nature, some dramatic additions, and saturated, rich color palettes.
