This Adorable Bee Wreath Is The Dollar Tree DIY Of The Summer

Summer is the best time to begin creating your new home decor projects. A fun place to search for inspiration for a DIY is none other than Dollar Tree. Whether you are looking for an easy DIY pretty storage solution or to transform glass jars into showstopping vintage decor, many unique items can be repurposed for your different DIY needs. One project that is causing a buzz is this adorable bee wreath.

To create this project, you'll need to collect some necessary supplies. Start by searching for a 14.25-inch floral garden metal wreath form that will be the base of your wreath. If you find something smaller or larger, the project will still work; you only need to adjust the number of clothespins you use. Next, purchase three packs of the Crafter's Square Wooden Clothespins, as the 14-inch form requires around 66 clothespins to work. Dollar Tree sells a few different types of clothespins, but you'll need the standard-sized, longer pins for this project. If you can only find the small ones, check in a craft store or online instead. While you are there, search for some yellow, white, and green faux foliage, and any other bee-themed trinket that would be a great addition to your wreath. If you don't already have some, you should also look for some ribbon, black and yellow acrylic paints, and a white paint pen.

Painting your clothespins

Once you have gathered your supplies, you're ready to begin the project. The most tedious part of crafting this bee wreath is the time it takes to paint the clothespins with acrylic paint. You want to paint half of the pins yellow and the other half black. Because you want to cover the entire surface of the pin (including the inside), it is best to set aside a day or so to paint the pins and let them dry before beginning the rest of the project.

If you are looking to save some time on this project, try spray painting the clothespins instead. Clip the clothespins on a wire hanger so their interior stays relatively accessible. Take the hanger outside and spray each side of the clothespin, then allow the pins to air dry overnight. Once completely dry, remove the pins, and they are ready to use. If you decide to give this method a try, make sure you put your can of spray paint in hot water before painting so the paint is always even.

After the pins have dried, use the white paint pen to draw dots on the black clothespins. You only need to add the dots to one side of the pin, as the other side will not be visible. While this is optional, it helps add to the cute look of the wreath.

Get creative and complete the project

After the pins are dry, start clipping them closely together around the metal form and alternate between yellow and black. With your hot glue gun, add a bow, some flowers, and your bee-themed pieces. These pieces can be removed from other Dollar Tree items, purchased online or at a craft store, or made on your own. You can also make small flowers and create swirls by gluing some ribbon around itself with hot glue.

While this black and yellow wreath is a great decor piece for a bee lover, there's no need to fret if it isn't quite your style. Simply, paint the clothespins any color for a different aesthetic. Paint the pins two different shades of yellow for a sunflower-like look or use colors like black and orange for Halloween, blue for winter, or red, white, and blue for the 4th of July. Also, add different accoutrements to the wreath that reflect your preferred vibe. For instance, you could add butterflies, paw prints if you love cats or dogs, or even a needle and spool of thread to show a love of sewing. You could also match the wreath to the part of the house where you plan to hang it. If you are going to decorate your kitchen, add faux herbs to the wreath, or use paper and pens for an office. Take your time planning what you want your wreath to look like, and get creative with the possibilities! Looking for the perfect summer birthday gift? This project may be just what you were looking for.
