Make A Flower Weaving Loom To Beautifully Display Your Blossoms

Displaying your florals has become an art form, with everything from a flower panel that will leave guests in absolute awe to a flower display with TikTok's clever baby oil trick, giving people so many unique ways to decorate. And why wouldn't you want to show off your blooms whenever you can? While vases and bouquets are a great way to fill your space with flowers, it may be a new design that really brings your petals to the next level. By making your own nature-inspired loom, you can create a frame that lets you hold your picked flowers and then swap them out whenever you want, with little to no fuss. A great alternative to the oversized canvases that take awhile to fill, this DIY gives you a place to collect your colorful petals and hang them throughout your home for a fresh aesthetic. No matter your interior themes, you can play around with the palette of your flowers to match any layout.

To create your loom, you only need a few items. Twigs or small pieces of wood can work as your frame, although you could use a pre-made frame you thrifted or bought new and took the back and glass off of. For this second option, try to find a slim border as you want the string used to hold your flowers to be the main focus. If you use twigs, chop them down so you can create a square or rectangle with them. These can be tied together with twine or string, or simply glued.

Create a loom with string and a frame

For store-bought frames, sand and either stain or paint the material to the color you want. From here you can get creative. Start from the top and either cross the twine or string in a crisscross pattern, wrapping it around the frame and bringing it diagonally across so it forms a weave. Make sure to keep the pieces close enough that flowers won't fall through when you add them to the layers of string. You may have to add more than one level of string to get a good weaved pattern to place your florals.

Once you've created your loom, you have the option to do several things. You can simply add flowers that you've left a little stem on and create an artistic spread-out bouquet effect. You could add more foliage in and intersperse flowers throughout. If you are working with a more minimalistic or bohemian theme, add Pampas grass and other foliage rather than flowers to match. You can make the loom any size, however smaller options are great for any room and can be propped up on surfaces or hung on the wall. You can even use your favorite dried flowers for a more vintage vibe.

Get creative with your loom

You could potentially swap out the string for wire, too, although it might be a little trickier. Use thinner wire if you're going to attempt this option. This could be good for an oversized frame in lieu of the chicken wire. This also allows you to display twice the number of flowers and keep them up, whereas string can wear down overtime. The wire will create a different effect from the string, which is more of a traditional loom. However, it could help keep your flowers in place, and you can still do the loom style crisscross to get the layout. It would be easier to attach single pieces of wire, wrapping each end in a loop around the frame as you would with the string. This will ensure you can get a tight pull on the wire, then add each piece in an overlapping pattern for the loom.

There is no reason to stick to just a square or rectangular frame. Another option is to find a natural branch or twig with negative space (think of a Y shape) and then add string by looping it around the two pieces on either side of the empty space. This creates a variation on the DIY frame but still gives you a way to add flowers, and this will also make a bouquet-style loom that can be fuller than the other version. Use any of these to decorate your home with flowers and make the most of your blooms!
