Having a fully-functional, organized kitchen is the dream, but it can be a challenge to come up with solutions that suit your specific kitchen and needs. There are lots of budget-friendly ways to organize your kitchen which you don't have to buy and can, in fact, craft yourself at home.  

With certain pantry foods that don't already come in their own packaging or require refrigeration, like certain fruit and vegetables, it's handy to have them on display, so you can reach for them when needed. However, having them out on your countertop can look cluttered. Check out this hanging wire basket DIY hack that will add more storage to your kitchen – keeping your food both visible and organized. 

All you're going to need is some miniature wooden pallets, a couple of wire storage baskets, some popsicle sticks, a stapler, a hot glue gun, hooks, and a paint color of your choice. The pallets, wire baskets, and popsicle sticks can all be picked up from Dollar Tree for around $1, and the other materials you will more than likely already have in your cupboard if you're a keen crafter.

Simply attach the pallets together by sticking some popsicle sticks on the back using a hot glue gun, then reinforce with a staple gun. Paint the pallets and leave to dry. Attach screw hooks to your pallets, like these ones from Amazon, and hang your wire baskets on them to create a vertical hanging storage solution. 

The beauty of this DIY is that you can tailor it to suit your kitchen. Dollar Tree wire baskets are available in black and gold, so you can choose to create a rustic look with the black basket, or if your kitchen screams luxury, the gold basket may work best. You are also free to paint the pallets in whatever color you wish — just make sure to choose a paint formula that's designed for wood. Painting the pallets black will make the gold baskets stand out. Alternatively, simply staining the pallets for a natural wood effect would be the perfect pairing for the black baskets. 

To hang your DIY masterpiece, you're going to want to screw it into the wall. Using Command Strips for extra kitchen storage is a popular option for those that don't want to leave any trace, however we wouldn't recommend it for this project. The strongest command strips hold up to 15 pounds, and if you want to store multiple types of pantry food, such as onions and potatoes, this can easily add up to more than that weight.

If you've already got a shelf that has some space underneath to hang some kitchen storage, then another clever trick is to attach shower rings to your wire baskets to join them together. This will create a free-hanging piece that you can secure to a shelf with hooks – perfect for those that don't want to attach something to the wall.
