The Easy Dollar Tree DIY That Instantly Declutters Your Kitchen Cabinets
Do you hate the kitchen cabinet where you keep storage containers? It's often a chore to find the right lid without an avalanche of plastic tumbling off the shelf. Continuing to swear at the situation isn't going to fix it, but a couple of Dollar Tree items can. Their infinitely versatile Essentials White Wire Cabinet Shelves are good for more than just giving cabinets extra raised storage. Paired with an Essentials Rectangular Plastic Basket, this combo takes lid storage to the next level. This easy-to-assemble contraption for errant lids slides right out of the cabinet for quick container cover retrieval.
All you need to do is bend the four legs of the wire shelf nearly parallel to the shelf's sides, and set it leg-side down into the basket. Leave the legs bent at about a 45 degree angle rather than folding them flush with the shelf's sides; this will keep the rack elevated above the bottom of the basket. Each rung of the shelf becomes a slot to store lids vertically. As long as the lids aren't too bulky, you should be able to take one out without creating an avalanche of the others.
Store plastic lids and more
This DIY kitchen cabinet organizer can organize things other than plastic lids, too. A quick-grab system could be a major frustration saver for storing reusable storage bags and/or beeswax wraps. Silicone storage bags and folded beeswax wraps are on the thicker side, and finding a home for them can be a challenge. Arranging them vertically, each with their own slot, makes grabbing a bag or wrap a one-hand task.
Use this budget-friendly Dollar Tree solution if you need better storage for thicker items like small cutting boards or pot lids, too. Use a wire cutter or heavy-duty shears to cut away alternating wires to make wider slots, accommodating thicker objects. You can also adjust the height of the rack inside the basket. Bend the shelf's legs at a lesser angle so that the rack sits higher in the basket so that taller items stay upright and tidy. If the wires don't feel sturdy enough to hold pot lids, you can swap the wire shelf for a collection of Dollar Tree napkin holders. Connected with zip or twist ties and set inside a basket, this rig will corral pot lids perfectly.
