A little clutter on your bathroom countertop is inevitable, especially if the room serves as a shared getting-ready spot for your whole household. But when that clutter gets out of hand, it can have a negative impact on your mental health and preparedness for each day. Having quality countertop storage solutions is an easy way to combat clutter while keeping your essential items on hand. Luckily, there are a few Dollar Tree items you can use to organize your bathroom in a fun and affordable way. With two of Dollar Tree's Essentials wire storage basket trays and a few common craft supplies, you can create a two-tiered storage shelf that will tidy up your counter in no time.

For this project, you will also need a pack of four Crafters Square wood dowels, eight small wood craft cubes, a sheet of poster board, some adhesive contact paper, a glue gun, and a little paint. While this shelf is meant to sit on your countertop, you could also use it for getting your cluttered bathroom cabinets organized, assuming the cabinets are big enough to accommodate it.

How to assemble your DIY bathroom storage shelf

Start by cutting your poster board the same size as the inner bottom of your baskets. Then, cover your pieces of poster board in contact paper and glue them in place inside each basket. This will prevent your items from falling through the holes between the wires of the basket. If you want to save time and supplies, choose a basket with a solid bottom instead. These Shabby Decor Store Detachable Wood Base Storage Organizers would be a great alternative.

Next, paint your wooden dowels and wooden cubes to better match your wire baskets — black or gold are great options. Alternatively, you could paint both the baskets and dowels in an entirely different color. When the paint is dry, glue one cube to each end of your four dowels. Then, glue the dowels to the inside of your first basket, placing one in each corner. For a more elevated look, you could skip the dowels and use a fancy wooden candle holder, glued to the middle of each basket instead. While this will elevate the look, it will also leave you with a little less storage space, so keep that in mind.

Finally, place your second basket on top of those dowels and use glue to secure it in place. Now you're ready to easily organize small bathroom essentials with this genius Dollar Tree hack. The wire baskets are great for this project because you can use the gaps in the wire to hang additional items like your go-to pair of dangling earrings, for example.
