The Easiest Way To Prevent Shower Mold & Grime (That Doesn't Include Harsh Chemicals)

Keeping your shower squeaky clean and free of mold can feel like a bit of a chore. Due to the moist conditions, alongside product build up, mold and grime can easily become an issue in your shower, particularly in the hard to reach corners, like in between tiles and in the grooves of shower doors. If you're guilty of letting this worsen over time without giving it a regular clean, then you'll probably be turning to harsh chemicals to solve the problem. However, there is a way around this if you simply stay on top of how often to clean your shower and, more importantly, drying it.

The best way to prevent mold and grime in your shower is super easy and that's simply to make sure that you dry it properly. All you're going to need for this is a microfiber cloth and a squeegee. Battery powered squeegees are fantastic at collecting the water that can then be emptied afterwards. However, they aren't necessary and a manual squeegee will do just fine.

How to dry a shower properly

Once you've finished showering, dry your shower. Try not to leave too much time before drying it, as you want to avoid any watermarks or stains. This also defeats the point in effectively mopping up the water if it has already dried and evaporated.

One way to use a squeegee around the house is to remove any excess water from the shower door, walls, and tiles. Start at the top and gently glide your squeegee down to the bottom of your shower. When the excess water has settled at the bottom, grab your cloth and quickly mop it up. Once the larger areas have been tackled, focus your attention on the smaller fixtures like taps, ledges, and handles, and continue to clean thoroughly with your cloth until they're completely dry.

To encourage the drying process, we'd recommend leaving the shower door or curtain fully open to increase the air flow in your bathroom. Even better, open a window. You may be thinking, how regularly should I be doing this? Ideally, every time you shower. Using a cloth and a squeegee to dry your shower after use will prevent the build up of mold and grime, reduce the need for big deep cleans, and will ultimately make your shower last longer. The fact that they cost anywhere between $10 and $30 is even better, as this simple hack doesn't cost much at all.
