DIY A Pool Noodle Candy Corn Wreath To Spruce Up Your Porch For Fall

Candy corn is the simplest symbol of Halloween. Tri-colored triangles are so uncomplicated, but so much fun. In the last few years, decorating for this holiday has ballooned in popularity, and stores are brimming over with covetable products we're itching to trick out our homes with. Luckily, there are loads of cheap and easy Halloween decorations you can DIY. YouTuber Lindsay Griffitts-Phan from Craft with Me spied a swoon-worthy candy corn-themed wreath from Michaels, but balked at forking over half a Benjamin for something they could make even better. Armed with Dollar Tree bounty, they whip up a knock-off that is truly cuter than the original. Create your own candy corn wreath following Griffitts-Phan's inspiration. Even if you can't find the exact same components for your own wreath, numerous online retailers offer other equally adorable — and affordable — options.

Using a pool noodle as a base, Griffitts-Phan linked its ends with duct tape, creating a roughly 18-inch circle. Our crafter wrapped the form in fall-colored ribbon, covering it entirely. On top of the ribbon, they glued oversized decorative candy corn, alternating them head to tail, until the entire wreath face was covered. To mimic the original wreath's yarn pom poms, Griffitts-Pham snipped up a slew of handmade puffs and attached them on the inner and outer edges of the candy corn face. To top it all off, they found a cheery "Happy Halloween" sign to adorn the center of the wreath. Concoct your own, and your porch will be the centerpiece of your over-the-top decorated home. And, as you'll see below, pool noodles make it a breeze to craft other fun iterations of a candy corn-themed (and shaped!) wreath.

Put your own spin on a candy corn wreath

To pull off a similar design as Griffitts-Pham's, first shop around for budget-friendly Halloween decor crafts. Get your hands on a pool noodle, a spool of wire-edged ribbon like this MEEDEE Halloween Ribbon, a Halloween door sign, and at least three skeins of acrylic yarn in fall colors. Crucially, don't forget to buy 10 to 12 candy corn decorations; this Huwena 12-piece Halloween 3D Candy Corn set should do nicely. You'll also need duct tape, a glue gun, and a bit of craft wire or twist ties.

Connect the ends of the pool noodle with duct tape, wrap your wreath form with ribbon and glue the ends. Glue the individual glitter candy corn pieces onto the wreath alternating tip to tail. Once you've covered the face of the wreath, continue gluing additional candy corns evenly spaced on top of the ones you've already glued. To make the pom poms, wrap yarn 60 times around a 4-inch-wide piece of cardboard. Slide the bundle off the cardboard and tie a piece of yarn around the center of the bundle several times. Trim the loops at each end of the bundle, fluffing the ends as you go to. Glue about 50 pom poms along the edges of the wreath.

Attach the sign to the center of the wreath with heavy craft wire or twist ties. Find a spot on the back of the wreath where you'll attach the sign's hanger. Move aside the ribbon in that spot, bend the wire, and poke it through about a ¼-inch section of the noodle. Twist the wire through the sign's hanging loops, and your wreath is ready!

Candy corn-shaped Halloween wreath

The DIY above makes for a unique, Halloween-themed wreath. But if you want to push the envlope a bit, why not stray from the traditional, circular wreath shape and make this decoration into a triangle — much like the characteristic isocleles triangle shape of candy corn? Jennifer Porter, founder of Satsuma Designs, did just that, turning a pool noodle into a triangle with two sides of equal length, then wrapping the wreath with orange, white, and yellow streamers to mimic the colors of the treat.

This bright and festive DIY is easy enough to tackle. Start by cutting one pool noodle into three pieces — two must be of an equal length (Porter went with two 12-inch segments and one measuring 8 inches). Use a wide, heavy-duty tape to connect the three segments into a triangle. Then, wrap the wreath with streamers to replicate candy corn colors. If you don't have any at home, this UNIIDECO Crepe Paper set comes in 8 colors, including organge, yellow, and white.

But streamers aren't the only medium you can use to wrap the noodle wreath. If you want bolder colors, a bit more sheen, or better resilience against the elements (this is handy if the wreath will hang outdoors), try using colorful craft ribbons, like those in this MEEDEE Pastel Rainbow Ribbon Assortment, instead. With the basics ready, you can spruce up the wreath by adding fall-colored bows and flowers to it — you can make these from the streamers, too. Alternatively, dress it up with these DIY glue ghost decorations for a bit of spooky fun.
