Walmart's Latest Product Recall Comes With A Fatal Warning
If you've recently brought bamboo blinds into your decor courtesy of Walmart within the last year or two, waste no time checking the brand. To save yourself money and potential harm, you may want to add a certain set of window blinds to the list of home items you should never, ever buy at Walmart. A window shade made by Autoez and sold by Walmart is being recalled due to a strangulation and entanglement hazard stemming from a long operating cord. Infants and children under the age of five are at particular risk of strangulation from window blinds, with effects ranging from neck wounds to brain damage and death. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in connection with the Autoez product connected to recall number 25-478. However, if you bought brown bamboo blinds from Walmart between September 2023 and May 2025, check the top rail of the blinds for the Autoez label. If they are indeed the blinds in question, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission advises you to dispose of them immediately.
Did Walmart's stock just seriously plummet in your opinion? Although the mega-mart could be liable for selling defective merchandise, consumers are eligible for a refund through Autoez, so you can get your money back and check for better deals on blinds at Home Depot or Lowes. In order to be compensated, there are a few simple steps to take that culminate with tossing the shades into the garbage. For the sake of transparency, the Autoez blind recall has been made public on Walmart's Product Recall page.
What to do if you bought recalled Autoez blinds at Walmart
Don't fret, but don't wait: Take the recalled Autoez blinds off your windows immediately, and cut off the operating cord. The construction also features accessible inner cords that pose a hazard, so unfortunately, the blinds themselves aren't safe for repurposing. Once you've disposed of the operating cord, use a marker or another permanent marking method to write "recalled" clearly and visibly on the shades themselves; tempted fans of upcycling should know to leave these in the garbage bin rather than risk reuse.
Take a photograph of the destroyed product with the severed operating cord in your trashcan, and include it with your refund request. You can send your request and photo to Autoez_recall@163.com and access additional information on the Autoez Recall Notice. Once you've got that refund in hand, put it toward replacing those faulty window treatments with one of these affordable blinds on Amazon that are actually worth buying.
