According to Yelp's 2026 Home, Beauty, & Lifestyle Trends report, searches for "stair runner installation," "carpet installation," and "stair refinishing" have all increased exponentially on the platform over the last few months, indicating that designers and homeowners are looking towards this often-ignored area to bring personality to interiors. 

There is endless inspiration out there for decorating and enhancing a staircase. For Yelp's trend expert Tara Lewis, patterned wallpapers and runners are the easiest ways to turn this mostly utilitarian space into a stunning decor moment. These options are "perfect for renters or anyone wanting a quick change with flexibility," she offered. But, if you happen to be building your home from scratch, investing in architectural, sculptural staircases is also incredibly in vogue at the moment. 

When it comes to structure, some of the stylish and modern staircase ideas you're certain to love include tried-and-true formulas like curved designs and floating steps, as well as refreshing new approaches like accent stairs. This trend, which gained some steam in 2025, consists of highlighting the bottom steps or platform of a staircase through the use of a contrasting material, typically stone.
