Dollar Tree has pulled out all the stops for the holidays this year. Their dishtowel collection is staggering, and any one of them can become a festive throw pillow in shockingly few steps. The hardest part is choosing the towel to pillow-ize; at $1.50 each, you can make several of these creative Christmas decorations without any guilt. Snowflakes, Santas, seasonal sayings, and Yule-colored plaids are among the cutest styles available, and they have plenty of good company, as well. And before you worry about the cost of the remaining supplies, your two other purchases to make a no-sew towel throw pillow will leave you enough material left over to make more than one, for sure.
Inspirational TikToker shesmilesshecrafts scored a Gingerbread Kitchen Towel from their local outpost. With just a glue gun and a bag of polyester filling, they stuffed an adorable and enviable holiday pillow in minutes. Use glue sticks specifically made for fabric, like these Surebonder Fabric Hot Glue Sticks, to make a washable, flexible seam with the pull of the trigger.
Although the array of adorable holiday towels at the Tree is tempting, you might not feel that the terry cloth finish will make your home feel extra cozy this season. You can still pay the same amount and follow the same steps with some of Dollar Tree's Christmas-themed placemats. They're slightly smaller than the 15-inch by 25-inch towels at only 12 inches by 18 inches, but the woven material might have you compromising size for finish.
Create a stitch-free Dollar Tree holiday pillow
Before embarking on this budget crafting adventure, run your towel or placemat through the wash. In the meantime, gather up your bag of polyester filling along with a few clothespins or a large chip clip. Once it's dry and softened, fold your towel in half lengthwise so that the non-printed surface is visible. With a screaming hot glue gun, carefully line the two inside edges that meet the fold with glue. Glue short sections at a time, no more than 3 inches, pressing the two fabric edges together firmly before the glue solidifies. For the remaining open side, glue about ⅔ of the opening, leaving the middle ⅓ of the opening glue-free for now.
Turn the fabric inside out (or outside-in, in this case) through the opening, and use a capped pen or chopstick to push the corners into crisp points from inside. Fill the cavity with stuffing to your desired firmness. Fold in the edges of the opening slightly for a hidden seam to glue. Match the edges well so that it blends in with the other glued seams. With your clothespins or chip clip close at hand, glue and clip the opening closed quickly. If some of the glue oozes past seams and into eye shot, try one of these surefire ways to banish hot glue gun stains from fabric. One or more of these easy and thrifty pillows is ready to inspire snuggling and to steep your sofa or armchair in Christmas spirit.
