The Unexpected Neutral That's Trending In 2026 And Transforming Homes

For the past few years, maximalism and bright colors have dominayed interior design. More is more when it comes to home decor, with statement wallpaper patterns and boldness at the center of trends. However, a more subtle color is trending to make a statement in 2026. Although unexpected, it is transforming homes without meaning you have to forgo personality and expression. The color? Pale plaster pink. The designer Laura Stephens told Homes & Gardens that they opted for this color in a kitchen recently, using it to create a "light, bright, and neutral space". However, unlike other neutral shades like gray, white, or black, there is a touch of whimsy and warmth to this shade of pink. It is a cozy hue that contains life and color, but it does not overwhelm a room, giving space for experimenting throughout the years.

The palest of plaster pink, like what Laura Stephens used, is almost white, and therefore works just as well as a neutral base for a room. It is a timeless color, providing you with a backdrop that you can change up time and time again. There are more pigmented shades of plaster pink that work just as well, too. Patrick O'Donnell, brand ambassador at Farrow & Ball, told Ideal Home that darker, earthy shades bring "delicate warmth to a poorly lit space".

How to use plaster pink in your home

Plaster pink is a fantastic warm neutral paint color to add to your home, and it can fit perfectly in bathrooms, living areas, bedrooms, and kitchens. You can use it as a backdrop to create a cozy, neutral feel in any room, or use it as a feature wall alongside off-whites. When keeping it subtle, you may wish to add natural fabrics to the room to create a calming environment. For a more high-end look, pair your plaster pink color with modern, minimalistic furniture, metals, and concrete. Plaster pink doesn't have to stick to the walls, either. If you have a white kitchen, adding it to your cabinets brings in a delicate pop of color without taking over the room.

Plaster pink is also a great color to use when creating the two-tone wall trend look, pairing it with darker, earthy hues such as violet, forest green, or terracotta. If a whimsical, dreamy appearance is more your style, bring in splashes of yellow or chartreuse. If you don't want to paint your walls pink, consider adding plaster pink accents or furniture pieces to create depth in your space. Rugs, table linens, cushions, and vases all add that cozy, warm color to your home without you having to get the paintbrush out.
