For over a decade, the Property Brothers have been helping homeowners unlock the full potential of their residential spaces. From incorporating home features that never go out of style to using mirrors to make rooms appear bigger, the twin developers always have a solution to keep homes updated, beautiful, and functional. Interestingly, one half of the duo, Jonathan Scott, has broken his silence on how mirror walls are no longer in vogue. "Fully mirrored walls came and went," he said in a 2022 "Property Brothers: Forever Home" episode about the wall feature that's been out of style for years (via Realtor.com). Many homeowners like using mirrors to make rooms feel larger, but there's a better way to achieve this effect than with a floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall reflective surface.

On his HGTV show, Scott used a suction cup lifter to carefully remove the mirrored panels covering a client's wall. They can make any room look like a gym, and worse, they can make the space feel dated, like it's stuck in the 1980s era of mirrored walls in disco clubs. Not only that, since wall-to-wall mirrors reflect a large part of the home, the effect can be overwhelming and over-the-top, as though you're in some form of futuristic attraction or a funhouse. Plus, mirrors are a magnet for fingerprints and smudges, so keeping an entire wall of mirrors clean can be a demanding chore.

A modern take on mirrors for every space

Having a mirror wall has advantages. Aside from making a room feel brighter and bigger, it's also favorable for people who like checking their reflection or OOTD from time to time. However, since this feature is already outdated, as per HGTV's Jonathan Scott, consider a more contemporary take on wall mirrors instead. Modern-style homes are heavily influenced by minimalism; thus, they mostly rely on simple yet elegant and functional elements to achieve a refined overall aesthetic. A more toned-down mirror wall alternative that works well with this aesthetic is a statement mirror — a large and uniquely shaped looking glass often framed with intricate designs.

If you are looking for unique mirrors to fill up the empty space on your walls, consider the Trahome Irregular Asymmetrical Wall Mirror. Its unique shape makes for a good conversation starter if you place it in your living room or hallway. Another option is the Dumos Arched Full-Length Mirror With Light, a standing mirror that's perfect for the dressing room or bedroom, where you are likely to check your appearance after getting dressed. Finally, there's the Harritpure Arched Bathroom Mirror With Aluminum Alloy Frame, which screams modern elegance with its golden frame and arched top. Put this in the bathroom, hallway, or entryway, and watch how it instantly adds depth and brightens the room.
