Is TikTok's Viral MarshMellow Comforter Worth It? Here's What We Know

TikTok trends come in waves. When you see a product all over your feed, you might wonder if it's really as good as it seems or if it's all hype. The latest viral TikTok favorite is the MarshMellow Comforter from Mellow, an extra-stuffed comforter that claims it's twice as full as any other comforter. As you deliberate between whether you want quilts, duvets, or comforters to make your bed cozy, it pays to know whether you're getting a good deal with this comforter. It comes with its own pros and cons, so knowing these before you click "buy" is important.

The MarshMellow Comforter comes in twin/twin XL, full/queen, and king/California king sizes. Several colors are available, including white, baby pink, gray, and sand. It's described as heat-adaptive, promising to be an all-season comforter. Mellow doesn't state the exact fabric its bedding is made of, only that it's OEKO-TEX certified and filled with plush microfiber. You can also clean the comforter in the washing machine, which would save you a trip to the dry cleaners.

On the TikTok Shop, the manufacturer retail price is between $250 and $300, depending on the size, but offers discounts of 56% to 64%. On the official Mellow website, the prices listed for the same products are lower. Every size is listed for a flat $200 and the store seems to be offering a perpetual discount of 50% off or close to it, depending on the size. If you were to buy the MarshMellow comforter, you'd likely want to buy it on the official website since the price is cheaper. But before you hit purchase, there's some things to know.

Pros of the MarshMellow comforter

The pros of the MarshMellow Comforter include it's down-alternative for a cruelty-free, vegan-friendly bedding option. The soft fabric is good for sensitive skin since it's listed as "A-Class baby-grade fabric," a high safety rating that indicates low pH and levels of formaldehyde. The temperature-balancing is meant to let you use it year-round, and since it's fully machine-washable it cleans up easily.

MarshMellow Comforter owners have plenty of positive things to say about the product on the official website, where it has a 4.9 rating. Many rave about its softness, likening it to "sleeping in a cloud" and comment about the silky feeling. They say it's "squishy" and "puffy" while not being too warm or too cool. The same sentiments are on the TikTok Shop, which features a 4.4 rating with some saying it's the "best comforter they've ever owned." Social media influencers demonstrating the MarshMellow Comforter say that it really lets you make your bedroom feel like a luxury hotel due to the crisp, white fabric and puffy appearance. With every positive comes a negative, and there are a few cons you need to be aware of.

Cons of the MarshMellow Comforter

There are, unfortunately, some negative points about the MarshMellow Comforter. On both the TikTok Shop and Mellow Sleep website some customers indicated the comforter isn't durable. One user says they only used the comforter for two months before it began to pill. They went on to say using a fabric shaver removed some thread.

A common issue for shoppers is the shipping time and condition. Reviews on the official website, TikTok Shop, and Trustpilot mention slow shipping, limited information, and waits of three weeks or more for their purchase. Another complaint is little to no response from customer service for shipping or other issues. A shopper noted that their comforter arrived with a hole, while another said they received a stained comforter. The return process and customer service were lackluster to some, with a few reviews saying a return was refused while others said the company wanted to charge a $15 fee.

The easy-care option wasn't always well-received, either, as some reviews state their MarshMellow comforters developed yellow stains, holes, or rips after washing. The comforter even fell apart after washing for one purchaser. A couple of reviews mentioned it melted or burned in their dryer, though Mellow Sleep instructs customers to "fluff" up the comforter using a dryer.

Performance leaves a lot to be desired, with one review saying it was the most "heat-retaining thing I have ever slept under." Others echoed the same, saying they wake up sweating. Sleeping temperature is subjective, so individual experiences will vary, but this is worth considering if you're a hot sleeper.
