Do you have an old blanket ladder that's just gathering dust in the garage because you don't use it for its intended purpose anymore? While there are plenty of ways to style a blanket ladder, you might have gotten tired of the old one and replaced it. If you're a houseplant lover, you might want to rescue that forlorn ladder because you can use it to create the most stunning vertical plant display. This is also a useful way to show off your plants if you're renting and aren't allowed to hang planters on the walls or add hooks to the ceiling. Of course, you don't just have to limit yourself to using a blanket ladder you already have. You can also buy a used one at thrift stores, or you can even purchase them new, either online or from stores such as Target or Tractor Supply.

Once you have your ladder, you just need to select some plants you want to display and find a way to secure the pots to the rungs. To begin, just use small pots that are relatively lightweight to avoid toppling the ladder over. Ideally, if you are able to, it would be a really good idea to secure the top of the ladder to the wall. However, if this is not possible, just lean it in such a way that feels the most secure. When it comes to attaching the plants to the ladder, there are various methods you can try.

How to secure your plants to the blanket ladder

One of the easiest things you could do is get a few of these Obtanim metal hanging flower pots, which are available in black or a selection of pretty colors. You can just clip these over the rungs of the ladder and then place your plants inside. Because these have drainage holes, you'll want to take them off the ladder and bring each plant to the sink to water them.

Another alternative is to grab some of these HiGift vinyl-coated S hooks. They'll fit easily over the rungs of the blanket ladder, but you'll have to make a hole in the side of your pot near the top rim to slip the other side of the hook through. Or, you could get something like these SunVFaFa garage hooks, and attach them to the uprights of the ladder to support hanging planters. You could even transform a paper towel holder into a gorgeous hanging plant and then use one of the S hooks to hang it on your ladder.

Finally, if you're really creative, you could make some pretty macrame hangers that you can loop over the rungs to hold your favorite plant pots. This is one of those stylish hacks that will instantly elevate your hanging planters.
