As summer approaches, lots of new pool noodle crafts pop up, giving you a wide variety of projects to recreate. If you're looking for a creative DIY that will turn a pool noodle into a chic decor piece in your home, there are a number of creators that are transforming these Dollar Tree finds. One interesting decor creation comes from @my_home_by_kendra_nicole on Instagram, who took a pool noodle and vase and created a piece that looks elegant and high end.

This is a relatively simple pool noodle craft that only requires a few materials, most of which you can pick up from the Dollar Tree. You will need a small vase (you can use an old one you already have), a pool noodle, black and white paint, gold leaf, a knife, and hot glue. For the paint, the original creator used spray paint for both the noodle and the vase, although you can also use regular paint for this project. Because you are using a regular vase as the base of this project, you may want to pick up florals to complete the look of your decor piece.

How to create this chic vase decor with your pool noodle from the Dollar Tree

To create an affordable DIY pool noodle vase, you want to pull together all of your craft items first so that you have everything you need in one place. To get your decor piece started, you'll cut your pool noodle in half lengthwise so you have one rounded side and a flat side. Then, cut the halved noodle pieces down into strips that are just a bit longer than the vase itself — you'll be creating a bend with the noodle so that it bows out from the vase. Spray paint both the vase and the noodle pieces. The original project painted the vase white and the noodles black.

Once the paint dries, add pieces of the gold leaf to the noodles. Start with some hot glue and then lay down the gold leaf where you added the glue. Repeat this process all around to create a unique pattern on the noodle pieces. Once the glue is dried, wipe away the excess gold leaf.

The final step for this project is to attach the noodle pieces to the vase. You'll want to glue the noodle to the base and top of the vase, leaving the center of the noodle curved away from the body of the vase. Work your way around the vase so that the entire piece is covered. With the curve of the noodle, you can see the body of the vase peeking through, giving you a black and white effect.

Things to consider and ways to make this pool noodle project your own

More tips for creating this DIY came from the original creator's Instagram comments. While you could glue the bottom of your pool noodles directly to the vase, @my_home_by_kendra_nicole actually added a candle lid to the bottom of the vase. This can give the piece more stability and offer a different surface to glue your pool noodles to if they aren't adhering to your vase.

Transforming a pool noodle into a cute statement decor piece is easy with this DIY project. And if you want to make things easier, one suggestion from @dawniegoat posted as a comment on the original video was to skip painting the pool noodles black and use noodles that are already black. You can find this color at Dollar Tree around Halloween. However, you can also find black pool noodles year round from Walmart's website, including the GceSteap 60 inch pool noodle in black for $5.57.

If you want to customize your piece, you can choose different colors instead of black, white, and gold. Use colors that work in your own space and choose paints that are either latex or water-based. You can even change out the color of the leaf used, as you can find assorted leafing in silver and rose gold as well. Amazon sells a mixed bundle of 300 Gold Leaf Sheets from Paxcoo for $12.99.
