The Popular Fridge Brand That's Owned By Electrolux

Unlike the household appliance brands that have been long gone and forgotten, you might already be aware that Electrolux has a fairly long history. The company began its life in 1919 in Sweden, with vacuum cleaners being its main product line. From then on, Electrolux opened subsidiaries in other countries around the world, including the U.S. in 1924. The following year, the company purchased Arctic and launched the first absorption refrigerator, but it took until 1931 for the first air-cooled refrigerator to be developed. 

Over the years that followed, Electrolux continued to introduce new products and purchase other appliance manufacturing companies until, in 1986, it acquired White Consolidated Industries, the company that owned the popular U.S. fridge brand Frigidaire. At the same time, White Consolidated Industries also operated well-known brands such as White Westinghouse and Kelvinator, which were also acquired by Electrolux as part of the purchase.

The Frigidaire company also has a long history, as it first began its operation in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1918. It became a much-loved name in the U.S., and today it's known as the first company to invent the home freezer. Frigidaire sold its one millionth refrigerator in 1929, while under the ownership of General Motors — and long before the company was purchased by Electrolux.

Frigidaire's next innovation was the introduction of the home room air conditioner. Moving on from that was the production of the brand's first washing machine, which was a marvel in itself — because it was fully automatic and ran on a timer.

It's no surprise that, these days, Frigidaire continues to be well regarded as a U.S. brand. Known for its highly-rated refrigerators that are worth every penny, the company's headquarters are now based in Charlotte, North Carolina, although it has quite a few manufacturing plants around the country, including Memphis and Springfield. It also has a manufacturing facility in Mexico. 

You might remember back to 2017, when Frigidaire introduced its new range of Smudge-Proof black stainless steel appliances, which included a French door refrigerator, a top-mounted fridge, a dishwasher, a single and a double wall oven, a gas range, an electric range, and a microwave. That same year, the company also released the first ever glass door refrigerator for home use, which comes complete with a proximity sensor that turns on the fridge's interior lights as soon as it detects movement. And with the average lifespan of a Frigidaire refrigerator sitting around 10 to 15 years, it seems that the company has been future-proofing its products just as well as the brand itself.
