So, you're in the market for a new TV stand. Whether you're simply looking for a cabinet to go below your television, a spot to store your media equipment, or a space to prominently display your coolest collectibles, you need the right piece for your living space. You could, of course, buy a brand new TV stand, but often they're flat-pack furniture, which arrives in a million pieces and are challenging to assemble at best. Don't even get us started on the cost of the high-end, pre-built options. On Amazon alone, these sleek pieces of furniture start at around $100.

Save yourself the time, stress, and money by DIYing an industrial-chic TV stand using a few concrete blocks and some wood planks. There are all sorts of unexpected ways to repurpose cinder blocks in your home, and concrete blocks offer similar repurposing possibilities. To get you started, TikToker Adrian Vazquez of Adrianvvlogs shared an easy tutorial on his profile.

This affordable DIY project came about when Vazquez's needed to set up a media unit during a living room makeover. He headed to the hardware store and picked up eight concrete blocks along with four wood planks slightly narrower than the holes in the blocks. The TikToker didn't want to stain or paint the wood, so he splurged on some high-quality planks. As he reported in the tutorial, the supplies cost him about $80. Plus, the unit was super easy to build, and he completed it in no time flat. Invest in the same materials as Vazquez, and you can start building your new TV stand, too.

How some concrete blocks and a few wood planks become a TV stand

The first step TikToker Adrian Vazquez of Adrianvvlogs took toward building his new TV stand was to clear and clean an area in his living room. You should do this, too. No one wants to assemble a new piece of furniture on a dirty floor! Next, create three stacks of concrete blocks along the wall — the two outer stacks should be three blocks high and the central stack should be two blocks high. Feed the four wood planks horizontally through the holes in the concrete blocks, with the two upper planks resting on top of the central stack of blocks. That's it!

As you might notice, Vazquez didn't use his new TV stand for his stylish frame TV — what you need to know is that he wall-mounted the TV above the stand instead. Although this industrial-chic TV stand is likely strong enough to support small appliances and decorative items, it's probably not as sturdy as a purpose-built piece of furniture with tested weight limits. Take a leaf from Vazquez and don't use the stand for anything heavy, especially since the planks simply rest on top of or pass through the holes in the concrete blocks without being secured in place. Avoid placing anything on the stand that could be damaged if it wobbles, too.

Personalize your concrete block TV stand before and after constructing it

You could, like TikToker Adrian Vazquez of Adrianvvlogs, leave the concrete blocks unfinished or paint them any color you wish. Choose black paint, like Vazquez suggested he might, or perhaps pink. A TV stand made from concrete blocks decorated with Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Gloss Berry Pink Spray Paint sounds like a lot of fun, doesn't it? Apply two coats of primer followed by two to three coats of paint before you start assembling the TV stand. Similarly, you can paint or stain the wood planks. Lightly sand the wood smooth before applying the finish of your choice. If you go the staining route, use a water-based stain. These stains are great for indoor use and come in a wide variety of shades to match your existing decor.

Size is another easy alteration you can make to this DIY TV stand. If you want a taller TV stand, simply add a concrete block or two to each stack. You could also use longer wood planks and more concrete block stacks to extend the length of the stand. Knowing how to decorate a TV stand can be tricky. Stick to smaller items that inspire you, such as scented candles, books, figurines, framed photos or art, and some low-maintenance houseplants. It could also be the perfect place for a tabletop record player and a few of your favorite records. After it's all set up, grab some snacks, get comfy on the couch, and pick a new show to watch!
