The One Bathroom Feature The Property Brothers Think You Should Splurge On

It's true: You could say that we have a slight obsession with HGTV, and Property Brothers, in particular, is one of our absolute favorites. The show is addicting and follows twin brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott as they find fixer-uppers for their clients and completely transform them into show-stopping abodes. If you've never watched it, you need to try it out and see for yourself.

A bathroom is one room that sees plenty of use, be it a relaxing candlelit soak in the tub or a frantic morning rush, it's an important room where the entire family uses to get ready and out the door on time. As a result, it's a space that most homeowners dream of renovating. (Until the estimate is revealed, that is!) Per Fixr, a 2021 bathroom renovation can cost anywhere from $4,500 to $9,000 and up to $20,000 for massive overhauls. That's a lot of money, and if you do decide to give your room a makeover, you need to spend your budget wisely.

The Property Brothers have several tricks up their sleeve to keep renovations beautiful and within budget. In an interview with MyDomaine, the duo shared several tips, including using mixing metals for fixtures (They suggest brushed brass, nickel, and golds.) and getting the most out of storage options in the loo. However, keeping in a specific budget, the brothers also stressed what a homeowner should splurge on during a bathroom renovation. Read more to find out where you should make the upgrade!

This is what you should splurge on in a bathroom

The Property Brothers won't cut costs on everything, because there are some things that you just don't want to skimp on during a bathroom renovation. However, in the interview with MyDomaine, they agree to "splurge where it counts." Drew Scott pointed out, "When planning a bathroom design, you need to think style and function." Jonathan Scott stated that a double sink can be a crucial upgrade for homeowners. "If you have the space for two sinks, use it," Jonathan noted. While several upgrades can be made in the bathroom, a double sink is popular because family members can save time while getting ready simultaneously, and it's excellent for resale value. It turns out the Property Brothers are right — a double sink is an upgrade that buyers want, with 64% of real estate agents finding that it's the 2021 top bathroom improvement, per the HomeLight's Top Agent Insights Report. It's an investment that's worth every bit of the cost.

Rich McKenzie, owner of Metropolitan Bath & Tile, received this question a lot with homeowners wondering if they should put a double sink in the bathroom or go for more storage. McKenzie explained that homeowners should consider "purpose, space, and habits" when making this decision. Compass Associate Real Estate Broker Ellen Schwartz agreed, saying, "A vanity with double sinks is a must. People do not want to share sink space" (via Homes & Gardens). Like the Property Brothers, we couldn't agree more!
