You Can Stay In An Virginia Airbnb That's Actually A Converted Tugboat

Near the town of Louisa, Virginia, is an old tugboat docked in an 8-acre private lake owned by Airbnb hosts Ashleigh and Mike. The entrepreneurs own three rental properties around the lake: a converted airstream, a log cabin, and the LuxTug. This boat, which was moved from Connecticut to its home in Virginia, has been newly remodeled to accommodate several guests with everything they need for a successful vacation, as detailed by the listing on Airbnb.

Guests of the Airbnb property will enjoy 142 acres of Virginian forest, a lake they would share with a maximum of 3 other families, and a unique living experience on a converted tugboat. The cost to stay at this rental currently starts at $415 per night with a two-night minimum. Though much of July 2022 is already booked full at this popular destination, there is still room this August and next summer.

Great amenities onboard the boat

The tug boat, docked in a private Virginia lake, features one bathroom and two bedrooms that can accommodate five guests. This floating Airbnb's first level has all your amenities, including a dining table, bench, small kitchen, and a bathroom. The dining area on one end of the boat is brimming with pillows for a cozy breakfast. Though the table is small, you can still fit up to five people around it. What's marvelous is that there is storage under the bench, too.

The kitchen has everything you'll need to prepare meals during your stay. As shown by the listing photos, there is an electric range, a coffee maker, a stainless steel sink, and a cherry red refrigerator. There is also lots of cabinetry holding all the cookware you'll need. According to Airbnb, the hosts also provide spices, condiments, coffee, tea, sugar, and flour during your stay.

A room with the best view

You can find the first bedroom at the boat's far end. This room is outfitted with a full-size bed, a built-in shelving unit, and lots of storage space. As per the Airbnb listing, extra sheets, blankets, and a blow-up twin-sized mattress are in a storage compartment under the bed. Nearby this bedroom is the full bathroom, and it includes a full shower, a sink, and a working toilet. Though it is very compact, it makes living out in the country much more enjoyable. Only In Your State points out that previous guests of the LuxTug find it extremely comfortable as the boat also includes a television, air conditioning, and even Wi-Fi.

You can reach the top floor of the tugboat by climbing the ladder inside the kitchen or by taking the stairs outside. This level is known as the pilot house and has been turned into a unique bedroom. With windows lining each of the walls, this room receives excellent natural light for watching the sunrise or stargazing. During the day, you can turn the area into a hangout spot with bench seating. And when you're ready for bed, you can fold out the cushions to make it a king-size bed.

142 acres to explore

Just off of the pilot house is a small deck with lounge chairs that are great for tanning in; however, you shouldn't stay on the boat too long during your stay. There is so much to explore. The hosts, Ashleigh and Mike, provide kayaks for you to go out on the lake. As told by Airbnb, you can enjoy the lakefront views, get in the water to cool off with your stand-up paddle board, or swim out to the deep part of the lake near the island.

The land around the rental property is great too. There are many places to hike with trails longer than 5 miles. If you prefer to relax, the ground around the houseboat has been landscaped so you can sit and enjoy your favorite drink. As the sun begins to set, you might consider setting up a fire in the designated fire pit. When the cook gets tired of making meals in the kitchen, they can use the removable grate on the pit to whip up some burgers or hot dogs for the whole family. If you didn't bring firewood, the hosts could sell some to you, or you can scavenge the land for fallen wood to burn.
