How To Recreate Jasmine Roth's Epic Wine Storage Rack For Your Own Home

HGTV star Jasmine Roth has a talent for coming up with creative decorative ideas during her renovation projects, especially when she's low on her budget. During season 1, episode 4 of Roth's HGTV show "Help! I Wrecked My House," she builds a gorgeous wine rack for her client to hang on a large, empty wall in her dining room instead of purchasing artwork that would put her over the budget. The DIY wine rack is chic and complements the wood features in the dining room. Roth made four wine racks that each held eight bottles of wine. It's the perfect DIY project for anyone with an extensive wine collection. You can take out some of the bottles from your wine cellar and display them around the house without taking up floor or closet space.

Roth's DIY wine rack is budget-friendly; any DIYer can replicate it. Before purchasing materials for your wine rack, determine where you'll want to set it up and measure how tall you want the rack to be to know what length to buy the wood and how many brackets you'll need. For this project, you'll need 11- to 12-inch-long pieces of square stock metal, an electrical conduit box or "pancake," 2 x 4 pieces of wood, sandpaper, a drill, wood stain, screws, an old rag, and black spray paint. If you don't want to make the brackets, you can purchase them pre-made.

Steps for making the wine rack

Gather your materials, take them outdoors, and lay them on a worktable. Start by sanding down the wood, and brush off the dust when you're done. Then, dip your rag into the wood stain and rub it over the wood. Apply it to every side, add as many coats until you reach the color you like, and let the wood pieces dry.

While the wood is drying, screw the pancake and a small block of wood next to each other onto a spare piece of wood. Leave space between the pancake and the wood to fit the stock metal. Next, place the metal's end between the pancake and the wood and bend it slightly around the pancake to create a curve. Repeat the step for all of your stock metal. After the metal pieces are bent, drill two holes at the top so that they can be drilled into the wood. You want the holes sitting on top of each other with less than an inch of space between them. Spray-paint your brackets and set them aside.

After the brackets have dried, attach them to the stained wood. You want two brackets next to each other with enough space between them to hold a wine bottle. Use a bottle to help you determine where to place the brackets. Finally, mount the wine racks to the wall, ensuring it's attached to studs, and add your wine bottles.
