8 IKEA Bathroom Products That Are Designed With Accessibility In Mind But Don't Sacrifice Style

Finding accessible home goods and furniture is a headache, but finding accessible products that actually serve their purpose and boost your interior design is even harder. Most often, companies prioritize function over style, resulting in ugly eyesores that most people would rather keep out of view. The popular furniture brand IKEA has recently raised the standard for these products by releasing several bathroom lineups that meet both criteria — several of their home products are designed to be both stylish and assistive.

Below are eight IKEA bathroom products that don't sacrifice looks in the name of duty. These items have details making them more useful for people who need everyday assistance. They have rounded edges, textured grips, and non-slip surfaces that make them safer and easier to use on a daily basis. In addition to these characteristics, these products embrace a modern look that's compatible with trendy interior designs. Most of these products are from IKEA's new BÄSINGEN series that's built with accessibility in mind. Read on to learn what makes these products so practical and how they maintain an attractive appearance, despite being made for utilitarian purposes. At the end of the article, you'll also learn how we chose these products and what standards we held them to in order to make this expansive list.

The BÄSINGEN towel rail works as a towel holder and shower grip

Reaching for the towel rack can be dangerous business after a long shower. The BÄSINGEN towel rail reduces your risk of slipping and falling by both holding up towels and serving as a handle to grab while exiting the shower. It has a minimalistic look with a black finish and a seamless design that meshes well with modern bathroom styles. The towel rail itself is made of powder-coated steel, ensuring it can hold up to the damp and humid conditions of a bathroom. The rounded rail and handle has no sharp edges, making it safe to grab from any angle.

This new IKEA line was just released earlier in 2025 and the product only has one review so far. The one customer gave it a flawless 5-star rating, applauding how perfect it is for the bathroom, saying it was exactly what they were looking for. It worked perfectly with their bathroom and is an extremely solid design. They even say they're planning on purchasing more of the BÄSINGEN series.

The BÄSINGEN shower shelf is a simple shelf with shower grip handles

In the same series, there's the BÄSINGEN shower shelf, which is comprised of a single shelf sandwiched between two convenient handles. The entire product mounts onto a shower wall. It provides a handhold, while also organizing essential bath products. The center shelf has small holes scattered across the bottom to drain water. Both the handles and the shelf have a rounded shape to ensure you don't accidentally bump into any sharp edges while showering. In addition to its functional benefits, the BÄSINGEN shower shelf has a dark anthracite finish and invisible hardware that befits modern and sophisticated bathrooms.

The reception on this shower shelf is divided. Half of the customers gave it 5 stars, while the others gave it a substandard 1 star. One of the happy customers expressed that it is a perfect shower shelf aesthetically and functionally. The other testimonial also claimed to be more than thrilled with the design, citing how useful it is for dizzy spells. But, under further investigation, it appears that the disparity between reviews is due to the installation process, not the product itself. Negative ratings were left by people struggling to adhere the BÄSINGEN shower shelf to the shower wall. To avoid a similar hang-up, look up what fasteners you can use on your shower wall ahead of time.

The BÄSINGEN toilet paper holder has a handy handle

Pair a budget-friendly IKEA toilet paper storage find with the BÄSINGEN toilet paper holder to make your bathroom cute and practical. This product is more than a fancy toilet paper holder, though — it also works as a supportive handle if you have trouble sitting down and standing up. This holder and handle have a sleek black finish and a rounded design. There's no visible hardware, making it a seamless addition to modern bathroom designs. The handles are smooth without any sharp edges, so there's less risk of injuring yourself, whether you're reaching for toilet paper or the supportive handle.  Using this product, along with other tips to improve your toilet's accessibility, are sure to optimize a bathroom.

Due to being a new release, this toilet paper holder also has minimal testimonials. The two reviews gave it a 5-star and a 1-star rating, respectively. One person is very happy with the product, acknowledging that it's a great design option that blends in and helps safety in the bathroom. However, the other reviewer claims that double-roll toilet paper is too thick to fit on the roll.

The BÄSINGEN shower chair provides support while sitting and standing

The BÄSINGEN shower chair easily ranks among the best shower chairs for people who want a stylish bathroom. Every aspect of the chair is designed to make a shower safer without sacrificing aesthetics. It's the same dark color and has the same round and seamless features as other BÄSINGEN products. The feet are non-slip, making it safe to set up on a slippery surface. The seat also has drainage holes, ensuring water has a way to escape. The arm rests provide comfort while sitting, but can also be used as handles when standing up, making them twice as functional for people who need assistance in the shower.

Over 80% of the 44 reviews gave this product a 5-star rating. Overall, it has a 4.8-star average, with most buyers overjoyed with the chair's look and functionality. One person applauded this chair for its look, design, and price, "We were looking for a shower bench with handles that didn't cost $100. Couldn't believe it when we found this bench by IKEA. It's strong, sturdy, and safe to use. And SO much nicer looking than the typical medical shower bench. The price is excellent. So glad we found this."

The BÄSINGEN step stool with handrail gives you a lift and holds towels

Make the mornings and nights at a bathroom sink easier with a handy step stool and towel holder, such as the BÄSINGEN step stool with handrail. This step stool has a different look from the traditional metal designs. It features a tall, rounded handrail with a smooth bar running through the middle. The handrail provides somewhere to grab for support, and the bar beneath it is a spot to hang wet or dry towels. Use this IKEA product for an extra boost at a bathroom counter, shower, or tub. Both the step and the railing are smooth and free of hardware, making them snag-free and unlikely to cause accidental injury. The footstep has rows of raised dashed lines across the top, which creates a non-slip surface. In addition to the practical features, the product is designed with style in mind. It has a solid black finish that complements a minimalistic look, making it a great fit for modern and contemporary interiors.

Five customers have reviewed this product, with less than half of them giving it a solid five stars. However, the majority of reviews are satisfied enough with the product to bestow a 4.2 star rating overall. One self-identified older person left a descriptive testimonial, "I am a short older woman who can't reach top shelves in the kitchen or closet and have had balance issues with a regular stepstool. I always need to find something to hang onto. This solves that beautifully." The only downside is that it doesn't fold up for storage, meaning you'll have to leave this stylish step stool out on display.

The BÄSINGEN step stool with handrail and two steps provides an extra step and towel storage

There's a second version of the aforementioned stepstool: the BÄSINGEN step stool with handrail with two steps. Like its predecessor, this step stool has a sloped handrail for balance and additional bars for hanging towels. The primary difference between these products is that the "two-step" version has a narrow lower step that leads to a higher full step. The two tiers give this step ladder more height, while retaining accessibility. Both steps also have raised divots across them that ensure they're non-slip. As an added bonus, this stepladder is built to be aesthetically pleasing. It matches the same dark anthracite color as other members of the BÄSINGEN collection.

There are 22 reviews for the double BÄSINGEN Step Stool, and 68% of the reviews left five stars. It has a 4.4-star average, with people applauding how it's useful for individuals of all ages. One customer explained, "Love the sturdy light weight design with the added handle security. My grandchildren need a safe way to get to the bathroom and kitchen sinks," and added later in their review how, "Adults can (also) use it as a great height sitting stool around the house with the built-in safety handle to get up and down."

The EKFÄNN mirror with built-in light has a dimmable touch light and magnified mirror

IKEA is known for its budget-friendly bathroom items that work for any age, and one of them is the EKFÄNN mirror with built-in light. This light fixture sits on a sleek, modern base with rounded curves. The shape and dark coated finish give it a minimal but modern style, befitting stylish bathrooms. The curvy shape omits the need for any sharp edges, making it safer to adjust and pull out as needed. It has a touch light that dims and brightens on command, in addition to being adjustable to point at different angles. It also has a triple magnifier. All of this makes it perfect for individuals who need a little extra assistance getting ready, whether it's due to poorer eyesight or limited mobility. It's also rated for use in damp rooms, making it the perfect fit for a humid bathroom.

There are only 12 reviews of this product, and 25% of people left a perfect 5-star rating. Don't be too discouraged by the scant 5-star reviews, though. Most of the reviews do give it 3 stars or more, applauding how good it looks in bathroom spaces. One reviewer expressed their satisfaction with the design and functionality, "This mirror will tuck away in any corner of a small bath and spring to action when needed. We hung ours with the control on top to keep it above the wainscoting. We use it every day!"

The TOFTBO bath mat adds coziness and a soft, absorbent surface

The TOFTO bath mat might be the best IKEA bath mat, according to reviews. This plush bath mat adds a cozy aesthetic without sacrificing function. It's made of a lightweight microfiber for fast-drying, which also makes it soft underfoot. When combined with the STOPP anti-slip underlay, it's slip-resistant and a safe addition for bathrooms. These mats are easy to clean, as many reviewers mention washing them in the washing machine or shaking them out to preserve their crisp condition. No matter your bathroom's color scheme, you're sure to find a TOFTO bath mat that fits your look, since they come in seven colors, including neutrals and vibrant blue, green, and pink.

Over 1,300 people have left reviews for this popular bath mat, with over 86% leaving a perfect 5-star rating. It has a 4.7-star average and is revered by people all over the world. One reviewer summed up the product as, "Absorbent and soft and drys quickly. Washes with towels and doesn't shed. Doesn't slip on floor."

Methodology: How we chose the best accessible and stylish IKEA bathroom products

IKEA's furniture and product lines are built in a contemporary and modern fashion. While many of their bathroom products do prioritize style, there are a select few that also focus on accessibility. This article was inspired by IKEA's new BÄSINGEN collection that's designed to make a bathroom more accessible.

We found eight IKEA products that are just as decorative as they are functional, by searching for certain characteristics. We sought out products that have features that make them easier for people of all ages to use safely. For example, many of these items have rounded edges and no sharp points, textured grips or additional handles that make them easier to grab, and also stand on non-slip feet or supports, making them less likely to slide out from under an unassuming person. Drainage holes are a must-have for most shower products. They keep water flowing so it doesn't pool and cause mold and mildew growth, which made this another essential feature we were on the lookout for. The final must-have, as far as functionality goes, was for each of these products be rated for bathroom use. Since bathrooms are humid and water spills are common, each of these items is designed with a level of water resistance.

In addition to these practical characteristics, we also scoured IKEA for products that befit most people's style. We looked for items made with discreet hardware and a contemporary or modern design that's easy to integrate into most bathroom interior decor. These products come in a neutral color that's easy to match with most color schemes, or have several color options that also make them easy to decorate with.
