Step Inside This Historic New Jersey Home Featuring A Carriage House

A historic home in Medford, New Jersey, has hit the real estate market with a $500,000 asking price, according to Realtor. The nearly 200-year-old home was originally listed on April 15 of this year, only asking for $439,000 after being sold in 2015 for $389,000. The home is both larger and pricier than surrounding homes, the listed residence with over 11,400 square feet of property included, with most surrounding homes under 10,000 square feet of property.

The Victorian-style home was built in 1833 and has a lot of historic charm with modern updates both inside and out. The home also backs up to Cranberry Park, offering a mix of suburban comfort and nature access. The historic Victorian build is also remarkably close to downtown Medford, where there are multiple shops, boutiques, restaurants, breweries, and, according to Medford Township, multiple free community events, including gazebo concerts, free family movie screenings, and food truck nights.

A look at the historic home

One unique feature of the Victorian home is the carriage home in the backyard, which the Realtor listing notes is currently being used as an extra bedroom. They add, though, that it has the potential to be turned into an office, gym, lounge area, or extra storage, though there is a shed that matches both the house and carriage home for yard supply storage. The listing photos show enough room inside the carriage home for a double bed, loveseat, dresser, clothing rack, and chair, making it plenty spacious for whatever the new owners decide to do with it.

The carriage house isn't the only attractive feature of the New Jersey home exterior, though. The listing notes that the 0.26-acre property is actually built on a double lot, which left enough space for the addition of a spacious wrap-around porch, complete with a porch swing. The backyard is also spacious and attractive, built to be able to accommodate entertaining needs. The spacious patio is floored with stone brick and small stone walls, as well as plenty of trees, bushes, and hedges, adding both natural beauty and a bit of privacy.

Inside the Victorian build

The front door of the three bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home, listed with Realtor, pays homage to its historical roots, with a glass panel with a portrait of a Victorian home in the center. The door leads into the living room, which has wood floors and smooth greige walls. An updated fireplace centers the room, complete with a built-in mantle shelf and mirror. Perpendicular to the fireplace is a rounded window seat. Behind this, there's a backdoor to the patio and a heavy wood staircase leading upstairs.

A glass door from the living room leads into the dining room, which also has wood floors and toned gray walls. The dining room is quite spacious, with enough room for a loveseat by the window, a console table, and a six-person dining table. There is a medieval-style chandelier above the dining table, yet again blending the old with the new.

More of the New Jersey residence

The dining room leads straight into the kitchen, which continues the hardwood floors and gray wall pattern as the rest of the home (via Realtor). The counter cabinets are pastel yellow with granite countertops complimented by pastel yellow overhead cabinets. There is a tall window in between the two sides of the kitchen, as well as a door with a glass window leading outside. A small chandelier provides extra light. All the appliances are updated and stainless steel, including the fridge, has additional shelving and storage built around it.

Walking upstairs from the living room, there is a quite spacious landing that connects to the hallway. It connects to one of the restrooms immediately, which is quite lux compared to the rest of the home. The sink is made of stone with a quite ornate carving style, matched with an equally ornate, large golden mirror. Two golden sconces sit on either side of the mirror, paired with the gold mini chandelier, gold towel holder, and robe holder. The master bedroom en suite is equally gold-imbued.
