You Can Stay In A Luxe Ohio Airbnb That's Actually A Converted Shipping Container

Today, unique Airbnbs are popping up all over the place. You can stay in an Airstream from 1974 or a treehouse in South Carolina, as detailed by Adventure In You. There's even in a rentable structure that looks like a UFO. If you're an adventurous vacationer eager to check off as many interesting stays as possible, we've got one more unique Airbnb for your list. This one has been made from three intermodal shipping containers.

Created by Ohio residents Emily and Seth, this rental home is called the OG Box Hop. It's a luxurious retreat located in the gorgeous Hocking Hills of Rockbridge, Ohio. With more than 18 acres of nature to explore and enjoy, you can unwind with friends and family while you experience a modern translation of cabin living for a little over $400 per night. The Box Hop brand, which includes three separate shipping container structures, has become extremely popular with Airbnb users. So much so that they are booked full for most of 2022 and some of 2023, as seen on their Airbnb listing.

Open concept gathering spaces

Inside this rental home, you'll find three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The primary bedroom is located on the first floor, and it's relatively small. According to The Box Hop, Emily and Seth intentionally made each of the bedrooms petite to encourage guests to use the common living areas where they can spend time with their friends and family. This first-floor bedroom has a minimalist design fitting just one full-size bed, a rug, simple artwork, and two small bedside tables. The room also has an ensuite bathroom that is accessed through a pocket door. The bathroom has a modern theme with a large soaking tub that functions as a shower as well, along with a sink, a toilet, and plenty of space to store your bathroom essentials.

Also found on the first floor are the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The storage container Airbnb gives these areas an open concept flow so guests can easily move between the three rooms. The living room and the dining room are only delineated visually by a rug. In the living room are a brown leather couch, a mounted large-screen television, and a ventless glass fireplace that is perfect for cozying up during winter months at the property. The listing on Airbnb warns that winters can be harsh in the forests of this part of Ohio, so you must plan accordingly.

The rest of the house and some great views

Kitchens in unique Airbnbs are oftentimes too small or simply nonexistent which can make long-term stays frustrating. Luckily, this is not the case with the OG Box Hop. Located opposite the front door, the kitchen features a deep stainless steel sink, a 20-inch range, an 18-inch dishwasher, and a bright citrus orange retro Smeg refrigerator, as told by The Box Hop. With lots of counter space and storage, you can feel right at home as you prepare your favorite meals.

To access the top floor which houses two more bedrooms, a second bathroom, and a sitting area, you will need to climb the spiral staircase that is just off the living room. At the top of the stairs, you'll find a glass garage door that opens to a deck (more on that in a minute) and a comfy blue chair where you can observe the bustling wildlife outside. The first bedroom on one end of the container is outfitted with a full-size bed, a rug, and simple decorations. The best feature of this room is that one wall is made completely out of glass, so you'll feel like you're falling asleep in nature. The second bedroom is a short walk to the other side of the second floor. It has the same floor-to-ceiling wall-to-wall window, a full-size bed, and a rug. This bedroom also includes a fun neon lighting piece that squiggles across one wall and lights up the entire room at night with a soft blue glow.

Plenty of fresh air to enjoy

The outside of this property is just as great as the inside. According to Airbnb, the container home is centered on 18.5 acres of land in Hocking Hills, which allows for plenty of room to hike and explore this mountainous region of Ohio. When you're ready to relax, the OG Box Hop features a large deck off the dining room that hosts a five-person sitting area, a barbecue grill, and a hot tub for six that overlooks much of the property.

Another outdoor space is located off the sitting area on the second floor through that glass garage door. By opening the door at the top of the stairs you receive access to a smaller deck that has several lounge chairs spaced out around it. You could sit out here and tan for hours mid-day or sip your favorite hot beverage while listening to the serene sounds of the forest as the sun sets in the evening. Don't miss another cozy outdoor area tucked underneath the upper storage container. A double-wide swing chair with comfy cushions is located over there on the backside of the rental. Escape to this quiet chair to meditate or catch up with a good book when you're looking to relax by yourself.
